Denim Spring 2010

You don't have to limit yourself to jeans when thinking of denim. Here's what designers are doing for Spring 2010. If you've ever bought the light weight denims and thought you were stuck with it, think again.

Maxi dresses sp 2010

I like the maxi trend but many of the silhouttes are too flowy and wide for me to consider. There are a few however that are tempting, of course fabric selection is important here, these are all 100% silk, in fluid weaves georgette, chiffon, and crepe de chine. If I'm to take the plunge I'll be sure to select the proper silhouette with a bit of shaping to slenderize.
These are some examples from Net-a-Porter.com

Spring 2010- Variations on a Shift

Here's what you can do with a TNT shift pattern (courtesy of Net a porter).

Sometimes all you need are some well placed metallic flowers.

Nicoll Shift sp 2010

What to do with a small amount of precious fabric, (you know what I mean, the one that was really expensive and you could only afford a yard but you just had to have it).

Knoll Shift sp 2010

From Oscar de La Renta, a serious commitment. The stripes on this dress are actually bias strips sewn onto a backing fabric.

Irish Couture

After a quick search, I can't find Irish Couture, save for one Etsy vendor. Much of what is pulled up relates to Irish Dance costumes. If you've ever seen the extravaganza of a row of girls in their dance costumes, wearing their lace up dance shoes, fast footwork and bouncing curls it's really a sight to see.

I don't have any photographs to post, however the last time I was in Dublin, there was an exhibit at Collins Barracks, and they had an example of antique celtic embroidery. The shot was taken without a flash, so it's a bit grainy.

The Irish dance costumes these days are much more elaborate combining fabrics and appliques, but my favorite are the older dresses that were made of velvet and embroidered.

If you are looking for inspiration you can look to Trinity College where they keep the Book of Kells. You have to look beyond the people illustrated into the borders for the Celtic knots.
