The repurposed jelly roll quilt finale!
I have to paint kitchen cabinet faces this month, so of course I'm procrastinating by working on my quilt tops :). This was the repurposed jelly roll quilt finished last year.
I perused the backing options and once I saw this I had to have it.
It's a bit overpowering and sort of coordinated with the quilt top, but now I get to sleep under a field of dragonflies.
It could use some more quilting, I'm playing with the idea of doing some dragonfly outlines in the solid blocks. That will be another day. In the end, I like the result, I could use a bit more practice on the walking foot, (I started with 2.8 stitch length and finished on 3.0 which released the tension on the stitching), and if I would have planned it better, the little squares around the border would be applied after it is quilted. Many of them were not aligned perfectly with the larger blocks, and it shows in how the stitching is wonky on them. This was a learning quilt. I was happy with the basting, which involved careful trimming of threads behind the white sections, ironing the top and back, as well as the batting. Then it was pin basted and remarkably not one pleat.
The binding color was switched out, initially it was going to be the light green batik, which had been cut, pressed and assembled, but the backing was so intense, I decided against it and went with the solid green.
I'm so happy with this print.
One down.... one more to go, actually two, but those cabinets aren't going to wait forever.
