Almost there. at hour 12 of this flight I was getting antsy. There was no leg room, 4" from your knee to the back of the seat in front, and if you dropped anything good luck reaching it
After many delays and being in transit for 29 hours, we finally arrive in Tokyo, but first there’s a list of things to do. We landed at 7:30, it took 2 hours to clear customs and get through the list
- Find the luggage delivery kiosk to send my suitcase to where I’m going to land on day 3
- initiate the electronic SIM card on my phone (so I have a data plan)
- Purchase a prepaid Suica card to navigate the local trains
- Find a bathroom
The Monorail, you know that looks like Japanese, this will be a fun trip.
The only thing I have energy to do is find my hotel, shower and sleep is what I need..
Hotel Fukudaya

You have to surrender your shoes at the door, but are provided with a shoe locker, and slippers to change into.
The room has everything you need, except for more closet space, but I have a backpack and will only be here maybe 10 hours.
Futon on a tatami mat floor, with a down pillow and duvet.
This is the entertainment center. There’s a small TV behind the little door.
This is where you can have a sandwich and cup of tea. That grid on the wall is the wardrobe.
The wardrobe which I didn’t find until I had everything spread out over the floor. It has a security box, and the tiniest refrigerator I’ve ever seen.
The bathroom is a bit of a marvel, a lot of engineering in one small space. There are dispensers for body wash, shampoo and conditioner. If you’re on the taller side it may not be comfortable for you.
There’s a drain in the floor to catch over flow from the shower or the tub, and it’s useful because in turning off the shower I inadvertently turned on the sink faucet without positioning the spout over the sink. It swivels to counter position as well as sink position. That might have to be over engineering, or it could be handy when cleaning the counter.
Oh and note to self, don’t flush the toilet in the middle of the night, you’ll wake up the building. I could hear someone.grumbling through the walls, fortunately I didn’t understand him and left early enough to avoid him.
After a shower and five hours of sleep it was time to move onto the next leg of the journey the hot springs of Hakone Tomorrow is an adventure…Goodbye Hotel Fukudaya!
