Kyoto, Kanazawa 12
On the move again.. next stop Kanazawa.
Here, I tried to purchase my ticket using one of the ticket machines at the station. Normally, I would go to a ticket counter but this had a long line, and the train was leaving in the next 15 minutes. I had that sinking feeling again that even though I had the destination picked correctly, that I was missing something. Fortunately, there was an employee at the machines supervising everything. My ticket selection would have taken me back to Tokyo before sending me to my next destination, adding hours to my trip. She sorted me out, and I was on my way.
I really wanted some Sushi and picked up an Ekiben (train bento). Well, it looked like sushi anyway, it was fish prepared like sushi, but the fish was pressed and wrapped in a persimmon leaf. The leaf imparts a leafy flavor, not good or bad, just different kind of minty.
This is outside Kanazawa station, the Tsuzumi-mon Gate, lit up at night.
The wooden Tsuzumimon Gate outside the east exit is modeled after traditional Japanese drums called tsuzumi. The gate’s unique style has become a contemporary symbol of Kanazawa.
The gate in the day
A symbol indeed, as we see these construction sawhorses with the Tsuzumimon gate design.
Since dinner was on the train, we will set to wander again, for some reason I made a b line to the samurai district, it's pretty late so everything is closed. It's so quiet, and clean.
I'm going to be busy tomorrow, so it's nice to have this peaceful view of the Samurai district tonight, so back to the hotel and an early start.
